Ann Wright, a 29-year US Army veteran who retired as a colonel and a former US diplomat, is onboard an eight ship flotilla to break the siege in Gaza. Wright resigned from the military in March, 2003 in opposition to the war on Iraq. Wright came to Tucson to help fight torture training at Fort Huachuca. She was also denied entrance into Canada, a sure sign that she's being doing something really good, including bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Gaza, Here We Come to Break the Siege
by Ann Wright
I am honored to be a part of the latest international citizen effort to break the Israeli and Egyptian governments' siege of Gaza. This week, hundreds of persons from 20 countries will challenge the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza in an eight ship flotilla. An international coalition composed of Free Gaza Movement, European Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza, the Malaysian humanitarian organization Perdana and the Turkish non-governmental organization Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHH) is sending three cargo ships and five passenger vessels to Gaza from Ireland, Greece and Turkey.

Colonel Wright travelled three times into Gaza in 2009 and was an organizer for the Gaza Freedom March (http://www.gazafreedommarch.org/) that brought 1350 persons from 44 countries to Cairo, Egypt to go into Gaza, but Egyptian authorities refused to allow the majority of the group to go into Gaza. Colonel Wright said “the Israeli siege of Gaza is illegal and a violation of international law. We demand that the Israeli, Egyptian, United States and European governments end this siege. If the governments will not stop the siege, it is up to the citizens of the world to break it—and that is what we will do!”
Cynthia McKinney: Bicycling for Peace
Cynthia McKinney, is also at it again. McKinney spent the Fourth of July in an Israeli jail for her humanitarian efforts to Gaza. McKinney, a six-term member of Congress, was also detained at the Canadian border long enough this year to prevent her from testifying in the trial of Mohawk Splitting the Sky. Splitting the Sky was arrested in an attempted citizen's arrest of war criminal George Bush in Canada. Like Wright, McKinney has also come to Tucson to join in the struggles for human rights and dignity. Join her on a bike ride across America.
Cynthia McKinney Bicycles Across America
by Cynthia McKinney
We’re bicycling from San Francisco to Washington, DC between 24-July and 22-Sept, 2010, without motorized support. The ride will demonstrate the bicycle as a transformational tool to solve the problems of Climate Change, Oil Wars, the Health Crisis, and the Economic Crunch. Along the way, riders will facilitate community discussions around the question “How can we support each other to live true to our best values?” Please join us. If you would like to bicycle all or part of the route, plan a convergence ride, or host riders passing through your community, please e-mail bike4peace@googlegroups.com
