Rain
It is pouring down outside, so I got to thinking.
Sometimes, I think we don't appreciate the dramatic value of rain in RPGs. I think it is because it is hard for us to quantify. A torch has a light radius of X. Darkvision allows you to see up to X ft. What is rain and how does it affect the character? Hard to say.
And if it cant be quantified, it is easy to ignore. Just like your character's hunger is easy to ignore if you don't track rations very well. And the value of arrows or bullets declines as you ignore the accounting of them.
I wonder how it could be done. What does rain do to you?
I can only think of GM narration, focusing on the limited range of sight, the crushing sound of it, the slickness of the ground beneath your feet, and so on.
Anyone got a better solution?
