Solari

This is a portion of the language section of the Novarium character creation book currently under development.

Solari is the celestial language taught to humanity by Azakriel during the composition of his book in anticipation of the Gift of Light. Certain words are only understandable to someone capable of magic, as they refer to emotions and sensations created by magic. Since the language is primarily used to discuss magical concepts or to write out magical spells on scrolls, almost everything written in Solari is incomprehensible to anyone that is not a human female; including all demi-human races and the male half of the human race. Elves can understand certain texts, so long as they only refer to magical concepts that an Elf would be familiar with. For example, an Elf cannot understand a reference to any technique other than Embue because they are biologically incapable of casting such magic.

Solari makes the extensive study of magic that has occured in the centuries following Azakriel's death possible. The Order has compiled huge libraries of texts on magical theory, practice, and speculation. Solari allows a Novarii to write a magical spell down on a scroll for use later without risk of failure (although without the speed of improvisational casting).

When angels materialize in the mortal realm, they are assumed to be fluent in Solari and they can use this language to communicate. They may speak some vernacular languages as well, but this is normally very limited. Any lost magical texts found in the world are unlikely to be written in Solari because of it's relatively recent appearance. However, before they were cursed the Elves kept extensive libraries of magical texts that may be of value to an enterprising Novarii if they can read Elvish.

Solari is a written and spoken language, but it is really only spoken as a form of secret communication between Novarii or when speaking with an Angel or other divine being. All Novarii are automatically fluent in this language and do not have to use a language choice to take it. Elves can take it as a Dead Language if they want, and they will be able to understand it only in a written capacity, but know that it will be of more limited use to them. Other characters are unable to choose this language simply because they cannot understand it's base concepts.
