Finals are coming up!

Finals and the end of school are fast approaching. Finals start on the 17th and end on the 19th. Now not many of us are looking forward to finals, but they must be taken so we can get out of school. So I say let's take them and get them out of the way so it can be summer and we can just kick back, relax, swim, work, or just whatever your summer has in store for them. Although we are looking forward to summer, we must not overlook finals. Make sure to study for them and do good on them. After finals are over, along with school, you can really start having fun because after that final exam on May 19th, summer break officially begins.

Lebron James-Bulls Connection??

There have been rumors speculating that in the near future, when the most outstanding and dynamic player in the world-wide game of basketball becomes a free agent this summer, Lebron James could be signed with the Chicago Bulls. As rumors have it Coach John Calapari, who is currently the head of the Kentucky Wildcats Men's College Basketball team, could become the head coach of the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have recently fir their previous coach, Vinny Del Negro. There is said that Calapari and James have a connection. If the James deal did go through the Bulls would be the team to beat in the NBA. The Bulls would have an All-Star point guard in Derrick Rose, James could become the shooting guard that does it all, and the hideous looking Joakim Noah. The nucleus of those three at the helm of the Bulls franchise and Calapari coaching, the Bulls could be dang good. But who knows what lies ahead, only time will tell if those rumors become reality.

Wrigley Field

This past weekend on Sunday,the day after prom, I took a trip with my family to Chicago to go watch the Chicago Cubs. Now I'm no Cubs fan, they're actually my least favorite team, but I must admit their stadium is pretty sweet. Their stadium is so old and unique, it's a miracle that they haven't torn it down and built a new one yet like so many of the teams today have. The men's restroooms were rather interesting considering there were lines of troughs that you did your business into instead of separate urinals. The Cubs have the highest ticket prices in the major league's because their stadium is so old and it doesn't seat very many people. I liked the trip and thought it was rather fun, even if we did have to see the Cub's. Plus they won.

P.S.- My sister is a Cub's fan just because the rest of my family are Cardinal fan's. She was rather excited to go see her Cubbies play.

River to River Relay 2010

The River to River Relay is a race that is 80 miles and stretches from the Mississippi River to the Ohio River. The team consists of 8 runners, with each runner running 3 segments. These segments range from 2.5-4 miles and range in difficulty. The race takes all day. This year we have a team made up of Ryan Hoelscher, Anthony Raddatz, Patrick Grunloh, Mitchell Wortman, Jared Having, Ed Grunloh, Bart Willenborg, and Bill Hoelscher. I was originally planning to run it, but due to my recent injury Mitchell Wortman has taken my place. It should be a great time and many memories made. There is a rumor going around that the runners in their teens are supposed to be getting mohawks to run with.

Summer!!

Now most of you are about to go insane with the awesome weather we've been having lately and not being free and just doing whatever you want to do. Instead, we're cooped up in a school all day till 3 in the afternoon. Well i have some good news and I have some bad news. First the good news. As of right now, March 31, 6:25 P.M., we officially have 7 more weeks, 49 days, till the end of school. Yes, the sophomores have the countdown going in Evan Hakman's locker. Now for the bad news. We still have 49 more days till we're finally out for summer. More good news though. Those 49 days include weekends and other miscellaneous days(holidays, teacher's inservice, etc.). So roughly, we have 30 days of school left(somewhere close to there), and those are actual school days. So hang in there and try not to go crazy before school gets over.

The NCAA Tournament

Wow has this NCAA Tournament been one for the ages. There have been so many upsets over the past 4 days(Thurs.-Sun). With many of the 9, 10, 11, 12, and even 13 seeded Ohio getting past the first round. The biggest shocker of the first 2 rounds of the tourney has been the upset of 9 seeded Northern Iowa over the top ranked number 1 seed Kansas. Kansas looked like they weren't even playing hard until the last 3 minutes. In my eyes Northern Iowa just played harder than Kansas even though it was more evident that Kansas had more talent. Another big upset is Ohio beat Georgetown. Not only have there been many upsets in the tourney so far, there have been many close games which have been decided by last second shots, but also last second misses. All in all there have already been so many games in this year's NCAA tourney that they will become classics, so make sure to tune into the NCAA tourney this year and catch just a couple of the many great games this year.

P.S.- Out of all the brackets turned into espn.com and Sportscenter, none of them are any longer correct.

Hey everybody, this is Reed. So, I decided to blog since...well there's really nothing better to do when you have to sit in bed for a whole week after surgery. As many of you know, I tore my ACL while playing in the JV game against Altamont. I went to Indianapolis this past Tues.(March 16) so I could do some physical therapy before the surgery. We spent the night Tues. night at a hotel just 2 minutes away from the hospital. When we woke up on Wed. (March 17) I went in for surgery. I was operated on at around noon Indy time, so 11 here at home. When I woke up I was very groggy and didn't really know what was going on. The doctor came in and told me everything went great. I had to spend the night at the hospital Wed. night. We came home Thurs. morning. Last night was the worst night of sleep I might have ever gotten. Many of the drugs they gave me at the hospital started wearing off and the reality of the surgery started to set in. Not to mention that I had to wake up every 4 hours to take some meds; but, today (Fri. March 19) has been much better. I also got a new laptop since I'm only allowed to leave bed to go to the bathroom. So I just want to thank my parents for everything that they've done for me. Both of them have been extremely helpful in the process of my recovery. I hope to be back next Thurs. So hopefully I see you all then.

Reed... We all hope you make a quick recovery! Patrick really misses you and he can't seem to function properly in class. And, FYI--Devan has stolen your seat. What you've missed: Hanner picked his hair out this week. It was HUGE! Umm, we learned about Krav Maga (watch a video clip of it on Youtube...it's pretty cool) And, oh yeah, we, like, learned stuff...and stuff.

Taken

So this weekend with my bum knee and everything i sat down and watched the movie Taken which stars Liam Neeson. Taken is a very action packed movie that keeps your attention the whole time. Neeson plays the character of Bryan Mills. Bryan Mills is an ex-CIA or FBI agent or something like that (I'm not real sure). Well anyways, he's retired now and he's trying to spend more time with his daughter. She wants to go to Paris but Mills is reluctant to let his daughter, Kim, go. He finally gives in and when she gets to Paris is when the real adventure begins. I won't reveal the ending but if I were you I'd definitely take time to sit down and watch this thriller.

Illini beat Indiana

The Fighting Illini decided to make things interesting against Indiana on Saturday. The Illini were up by 4 with less than a minute to go, but 2 free throws by Verdell Jones III of Indiana pulled them back to 2 points. Demitri McCamey lost the handle on the ball the next possesion, Indiana's Jeremiah Rivers went to the line and calmly sunk 2 free throws, and I was thinking, well this is just great we went into Indiana's place and won but now they're going to win at our place. But McCamey had something to say about that. McCamey's late game heroics saved the day. After Bruce Weber took a timeout with 4.4 seconds left, McCamey inbounded the ball to Bill Cole, took a hand-off from Cole, and drove to the basket and hit a floater to just beat the buzzer. Once the ball was in the Assembly Hall erupted. The Illini were decked out in pink for the game in honor to support Breast Cancer Awareness. There jersey's had pink trim and they wore pink shoes for the game. Beanie was in the building for the game.

Today I decided to interview Mitchell Dust. Mitchell Scored 4 points in last night's loss to Effingham, but we're all still proud of him.

M-I don't know, how far is the race?

M-Palmer.

M-Me, Palmer doesn't have a chance.

R-So did Mrs. Palmer break his clipboard last night in the freshman game?

M-Yes, he claims he "dropped it," but I really think he got angry and threw it down.

Illini Win!

The game that has been voted game of the week is the Illinois versus Clemson game. The Illini overcame a 23 point deficit in the 2nd half. They were down by 23 points with 19:01 left in the game. It is the biggest comeback in Illini school history. This comeback is the 2nd or 3rd biggest comeback by any school in the second half. It was tied for the 18th or 19th biggest comeback in a whole game.

Mike Davis lead the way with 22 points and Brandon Paul finished with 20 points. Demitri Mcamey hardly played in the first half because he picked up 3 early fouls. Mcamey picked up his fourth foul 5 minutes into the 2nd half, but still managed to play the rest of the game without fouling. It was a great win for the Illini as they gear up for the rest of the season.

Stupid Criminals

There are some stupid people out there in this world today but these people just take the cake. So if you ever decide to do anything illegal, think things out before you act.

A man walked into a local police station, dropped a bag of cocaine on the counter, informed the desk sergeant that it was substandard cut, and asked that the person who sold it to him be arrested immediately.

A man successfully broke into a bank's basement through a street-level window, cutting himself up pretty badly in the process. He then realized that (1) he could not get to the money from where he was, (2) he could not climb back out the window through which he had entered, and (3) he was bleeding pretty badly. So he located a phone and dialed "911" for help ...

A pair of robbers entered a record shop nervously waving revolvers. The first one shouted, "Nobody move!" When his partner moved, the startled first bandit shot him.

A woman was reporting her car as stolen, and mentioned that there was a car phone in it. The policeman taking the report called the phone and told the guy that answered that he had read the ad in the newspaper and wanted to buy the car. They arranged to meet, and the thief was arrested.

So be smart if you're going to do something stupid and at least give yourself a chance. Cross Country Sectional Results

Well, Liz has made it to State for the 2nd straight year. And again she'll be flying solo. Neither the boys nor the girls cross country teams made it to state. We ran up at Decatur at a golf course and it was a mess. The course was mainly mud and almost all of the course was under water. The runners looked more like they had just had a mud war than like they had just ran 3 miles.

The seniors, though they liked to get mad at us, were a pretty good bunch. For the boys' team there is Andrew Grunloh and Drew Willenborg; they were top 7. Joel Baker is also on the team. For the girls team there is Taylor Oltman, Lauren Hoelscher, and Kelsi Swanson in the top 7. Victoria Wolke is also on the team. And we can't forget about Clara Ztweller, that was also her last race as a high school student in America for Cross Country. This was a pretty good bunch of Seniors and I hope that they had as good of a time as I had. I would just like to thank them for being such a good group. I would also like to congratulate the volleyball team on their regional championship.

The World Series

As many of you know, the World Series is in full swing. Just like Chase Utley's bat on Wednesday night. Utley powered the Phillies to a 6-1 win over the New York Yankees. Utley's two solo home-runs were all the runs that Cliff Lee needed to win. Lee pitched a complete game, a 6 hit bid and took a shutout into the 9th inning. The only hiccup that Lee had all night was in the 9th inning when Jimmy Rollins made a throwing error to allow the only run for the Yankees to score.

My uncle is a sports agent, and he is currently representing Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett. Burnett takes the mound tonight to face Pedro Martinez. Both of these players are pitchers. Lee is a south paw, while Burnett brings it from the right side of the mound. My uncle is currently in New York watching the World Series between the Yankees and the Phillies. So I'm not real sure which team I'm rooting for. Just be sure to tune in and see whats going with the World Series.

Cross Country Regionals

Both the boy's and girl's Cross Country teams are going to Sectionals this coming Saturday, October 31, which is Halloween. This means that both teams earned a top 5 finish at regionals.

The boys finished 4th, behind Robinson, Sullivan, and Shelbyville. All that matters though is that we made it and we also beat T-town. The girls managed to sneak in with a 5th place finish. Liz didn't win like usual, but she still made us all proud with a 2nd place finish. Ryan Hoelscher ran a good race for the boys. Ryan came in with a 16th place finish, I believe. The regional was at Robinson, and the conditions of the course were terrible. I saw at least 4 kids trip and fall while running because it was so muddy; there was also some pushing and shoving that helped them fall. Sectionals are at Decatur and I don't believe that anyone on the team has ever ran or been there.

The regionals were stacked with good runners, so there is going to be even greater competition at sectionals. Competition will be tough, but you never know, that's why you run the race. Now Liz, on the other hand, has a pretty good shot at making it to state as an individual. It should be a fun race and you never know about Andrew Grunloh and Drew Willenborg. This is most likely their last race so we'll see what they've got. If you have nothing better to do with your Saturday, come on up to Decatur and cheer on the cross country team.
