Pumpkin Carving

It’s less than one week until Halloween. You may have your costume picked out and candy bought, but don’t forget the pumpkins for your front porch. Pumpkin carvings can range from the classic jack-o-lantern (probably the simplest) to extremely detailed 3-D designs. How much initiative do you have?

What you need:

  • PUMPKIN - these are easily found: farmer’s markets, pumpkin patches, Rural King, and of course, Walmart

  • SHARP KNIFE - or pumpkin carving tool

  • SHARPIE - be creative

Do it:

  • Draw a circle, oval, hexagon, star, or any other shape on the top around the stem to cut along.

  • Cut along your line, through the tough skin, using an up and down motion.

  • Remove the stem. This is the cap.

  • Get down in dirty. Stick your hand into the pumpkin and scrape out all the guts (seeds and pulp).

  • Get creative! Come up with your own design and Sharpie it on your pumpkin. If you need help Google patterns.

  • Cut along your pattern. Push your cut outs out from the inside.

  • Place a votive candle inside and replace the cap. Now your creation has an eerie glow.
ENJOY!!
