Per Jovial Priest's request, here is an example of how someone would create their Novarii in Novarium. As a result of doing this, which was good to do today while the system was still quasi-amorphous in my mind, I realized it would work better if you could roll first, then allocate extra dice. That gives some choice, allows you to have a chance to deepen specializations or round out shortcomings, but not absolute control.
Dice Rolls:
Rolled straight down the line, actual d6 on my desk
Techniques:
Control - 4
Create - 2
Defend - 1
Destroy - 3
Embue - 3
Sense - 2
Strike - 6
Transform - 5
Foci:
Air - 3
Death - 5
Demon - 6
Earth - 1
Fire - 1
Life - 6
Light - 1
Metal - 1
Sound - 3
Thought - 3
Time - 6
Water - 4
Now based on the above results, I have kinda rolled up a necromancer/healer. Hehehehe! Strike + Death sounds really cool. Really great life score. I don't know how I could hit someone with time though, that might be a fun creative task.
I decided I am going to allocate my dice to enhance the most positive scores first, then put a little more power in some of the lowest scores so I am not totally bottomed out in so many things.
Techniques:
Control - 4 + 6
Create - 2
Defend - 1 + 6
Destroy - 3
Embue - 3
Sense - 2
Strike - 6 + 3
Transform - 5 + 1
Foci:
Air - 3
Death - 5 + 1
Demon - 6 + 2
Earth - 1
Fire - 1 + 5
Life - 6 + 2
Light - 1 + 2
Metal - 1
Sound - 3
Thought - 3
Time - 6 + 5
Water - 4
---------------------------
Okay, so final values:
Techniques:
Control - 10
Create - 2
Defend - 7
Destroy - 3
Embue - 3
Sense - 2
Strike - 9
Transform - 6
Foci:
Air - 3
Death - 6
Demon - 8
Earth - 1
Fire - 6
Life - 8
Light - 3
Metal - 1
Sound - 3
Thought - 3
Time - 11
Water - 4
This guy looks really cool to me. He can do the following combos really well. Evaluate them as if you were looking at standard D&D attributes. This is just a highlight, you can combine any values you want. You could combine Sense - Metal, but you would very likely fail.
Control - Death : 16
Control - Demon : 18
Control - Fire : 16
Control - Life : 18
Control - Time : 21
Defend - Death : 13
Defend - Demon : 15
Defend - Fire : 13
Defend - Life : 15
Defend - Time : 18
Strike - Death : 15
Strike - Demon : 17
Strike - Fire : 15
Strike - Life : 17
Strike - Time : 20
Transform - Death : 12
Transform - Demon : 14
Transform - Fire : 12
Transform - Life : 14
Transform - Time : 17
So as an example, I am going to cast Strike - Fire as an improvisational fireball. Strike is hitting someone with magic, Fire is duh. So I tell the GM this is what I am casting. GM sets the difficulty, I make the roll as if I was doing a standard roll with a 15 attribute value.
It's that simple.
Make more sense, Jovial?
