RPGs are like Sex

I have been listening to quite a few sex-oriented lectures today as background noise at work. Normally I do RPGs, politics, economics, history, etc. But today, I started down a road and just kept clicking on a link to related lectures. The whole thing got me thinking about how similar the subject of sex is to RPGs.

Sex is fairly taboo to discuss openly, most discussion is done jokingly. Most people don't talk about what exactly they do in bed, how the feel about specific things, etc. They may not even break it down in their own mind, they just leave things in black boxes. It is something people intentionally keep out of their public discussions.

Similarly, RPGs are this way due to both a slight taboo, but also a lack of introspection. Sure, bloggers and forum posters may have introspection, but they represent a tiny vocal minority in a much larger pool of people. There is tons of information out there just not being shared. Closed off from the world.

We need a RPG version of Kinsey.
