Top 10 Ways to Procrastinate

Everyone does it, when it comes to homework, projects, or even just getting up off the couch, at some time or another we will experience procrastination. Just in case you run out of ideas when trying to avoid doing something productive, here is a list of ways to procrastinate.

10. Eat- It's easy to convince yourself you can't function without food, so why not?

9. Sleep- We're all sleep deprived, and what if there's no other time to catch up on sleep?

8. Play xbox- Nothing is more important than passing that next level.

7. Convince yourself you're taking a study break- If you intend to study it still counts as being productive right?

6. Watch TV- Your favorite show is only on once a week!

5. Doodle- It's kind of like creating art, right?

4. Walk your dog- He needs at least 3 hours of attention a day.

3. Paint your nails- Your saving money on a future needed manicure!

2. Check your email- What if you have an urgent message waiting.

And for number one, drum roll please..

1. Facebook- No need for explanations

Mushroom Season

Mushroom season is just around the corner, as little mushrooms seem to be popping up everywhere in the woods. Just the other day, my dad and brother went mushroom hunting and brought home an entire bowl full. After soaking them fully and making sure they were clean enough to eat, my dad got the cooking materials out. First you soak the mushrooms in egg and then roll them in a powered batter of a flour, pepper, and salt mixture and then throw them in a frying pan. After they turn a golden brown color you let them cool and then salt them and they're ready to eat. This makes a delicious fried appetizer or snack that anyone will love. Even though they're hard to find, mushrooms are quite the tasty treat. By: Liz Wortman

Track and Field

The track season has just recently officially starting having meets. So far the team has traveled to Robinson, Greenville, and Shelbyville and hosted a meet with Effingham and George Washington High School. This year the girls track team has a new coach who has had us all working extremely hard. We even have had a weekly 6 a.m. practice and have been incorporating weight and strength training along with running workouts. Our latest meet was held at the St. Anthony track against George Washington High School. For those of you who are not aware of the story of St. Anthony's relationship with George Washington, it began when two teachers wanted to begin track and cross country programs but did not have the funds to support the programs and a great number of the students did not even have shoes! St. Anthony reached out to them, raising money and donated gently used shoes to help them out. At the meet many of the St. Anthony athletes made friends with the George Washington athletes. They gave each St. Anthony track member a George Washington t-shirt and they were given St. Anthony goodie bags. The day went well and we hope to have many more great experiences this track season. Cheerleading!

This week, as many of you may have heard in the announcments, cheerleading tryouts are this week. The whole squad was worried for this years tryouts because of the fact that we would be losing six seniors. However, unlike years in the past, a great variety of new cheerleaders, from new freshmen even to new seniors, are trying out. All the newcomers and even veteran cheerleaders have been working hard to prepare tumbling tricks, jumps, and cheers for tryouts. With a new coach and many new cheerleaders this year we are all excited for a change and to improve ourself to be even better than before! By: Liz Wortman

Pushing Through the Bad Luck

As most of you know, from a previous post, the St. Anthony cheerleading squad has been working extra hard in preparation of the upcoming competition this Saturday! Though, besides all this hard work, the squad has also been forced to deal with a number of panic attacks and tragedies. From the start the squad was already gathering some nerves in realization of how far behind we were according to the amount of time we had left to prepare. After finally hitting practices extra hard, some other obstacles got in the way of our success. Our first dilemma began when one of our main fliers came down with a random sickness, causing the possibility of mono to pop into our heads (if you aren't aware because of the effects of mono you are forced to sit out of all physical activities for possibly a month or more), which would mean a replacement flier, and in other words re-teaching a crucial ability to a completely new person. Much to our relief the flier's sickness subsided and she returned healthy and ready to go. As soon as we had everyone back and ready to go, another tragic event occurred. One of the bases in a stunt group caught her flier, luckily, but on her head, unluckily, resulting in a concussion. We all hoped for her to get better soon and lucky enough, the doctors informed her that she would be ready to go in only two days. After she came back healthy again yet another tragedy occurred! Another base caught a stunt only to find her finger stuck behind her partner base's arm bending her finger back and of course, breaking it. But no fear, to compete we need only 12 cheerleaders and our squad has 13, so there was another girl ready to go and take her spot. Only to our dismay another unfortunate event kept our alternative girl from competing as well! Now down to 11 cheerleaders the squad works hard to completely rebuild the routine incorporating new stunts that are legal with only 2 bases instead of 3. Finally after everything was falling into place, another tragic event occurred, of course! One girl rolled her ankle while tumbling, which worried many of us. Though, we think she will be okay, and we hope to compete Saturday and advance to state! Despite all our misfortunes the cheerleading squad managed to stick together and worked through it for the best!

Christmas Treats

Christmas time is finally here, and the big day is just around the corner. Because we all want to be on the nice list, here is a recipe for Santa's plate that might get you on his good side.

Hazelnut-Chocolate Sandwhich Cookies

Ingredients:

Basic cookie dough
1/3 cup(s) hazelnuts (toasted and chopped)
hazelnut-chocolate spread

Directions:

1) Prepare Basic Cookie Dough
2) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. With hands shape dough by level measuring 1/2 teaspoons into balls. Places balls 2 inches apart, on ungreased large cookie sheet. Dip bottom of flat-bottomed glass in sugar as needed; use to press each ball into 1-inch round. Sprinkle half of the rounds with hazelnuts. Bake cookies 9 to 10 minutes or until edges are golden-brown. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Repeat.
3) Assemble sandwhich cookies: Spread flat sides of plain cookies with 1/2 teaspoon hazelnut-chocolate spread. Top each with a nut-covered cookie, top side up, pressing lightly.
4) Store cookies in tightly sealed container, putting sheets of waxed paper between layers, at room temperature up to 1 week or in freezer up to 3 months.

Turkey Tourney

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend! As many of you already know, during this Thanksgiving week St. Anthony hosted the boys basketball turkey tourney. The boys won the first game handily against Flora, but just barely gave up victory to Breese Central by only 3 points. Though, the basketball team proved their talent when they beat Effingham High by over 30 points, a team that had beat Breese Central previously that week. Because of the loss to Breese, the boys were not placed in the championship game. However, they did win the game for 3rd or 4th placing 3rd overall in the tournament! Great job! I also feel the need to mention the cheerleaders, because that's who I am representing. Though we suffered a few rough patches I think we still pulled it together somehow and looked like the best squad out there (even though Breese had some pretty talented cheerleaders). If you were not able to make it to any of these games I hope you attend some in the future and cheer on your school!
