Whistle While You Work

Do you have one of the jobs where you sit a cubicle all day and listen to the person next to you whistle all day? That would make my coconut explode. Then there are those Cubicle A-Type  Personality Dwellers (CADS) that you can hear their every perfect phone conversation  with every girl with a heart beat who this CAD has buffaloed into thinking she was special.  Makes you want to sprint into his cubicle when he takes one of his frequent breaks to visit the bathroom so he can check himself out in the mirror and hit redial on his phone and tell the unsuspecting lady just what a jerk this guy is.

I am lucky, the only cubicle at my job is the recording booth....  The only thing I have to listen to is the sound of my own melodies & my producer Damien saying "That's Hot". Which is actually quite funny, because he is a big guy with a wicked sense of humor which makes for lots of goofing around at times.  But hey, like they say "if you can't laugh... you might as well be 6 ft under".  I know I don't want to be there anytime soon, so I plan to keep on laughing.  So I hope you enjoy the little clip of Damien & I doing just that, goofing around while working on a new song.  Looking to have this song finished mid July and God willing a whole new project done by my B~day in September.

My New BFF

Well, I kinda feel a bit like Paris Hilton making a big splashy announcement about my new BFF. But don't worry I won't build a reality series around it like she did.

This just happened naturally. I wasn't really in the market for a new BFF because I barely have enough time for myself as it is, let alone a new friend. But this one is special.  My new BFF's name is Ping. No, Ping is not someone from Japan or China. It is a fairly new social networking site from Apple's iTunes for music. It debuted last September on the same day the iPad was released. And so now the Greek Blonde Girl's music is much more accessible through Ping. Can I hear an Amen?

So the thought of what is Ping might be rolling around in your coconut, but have no fear, Ava is here. I will use my best effort to let you know what it is. Well look at it like a backstage pass to visit your favorite Rock Star. It is similar to Facebook and Twitter, Ping is accessible on the go, with Ping being available in iTunes for both iPod Touches, and iPhones. In fact, when Ping was released on September 1st, Steve Jobs even referenced Facebook and Twitter, stating "sort of like Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes". Steve Jobs also went on to say that Ping is also different from them, saying that Ping is all about music.

Since I am all about music, this has really got me excited. I just signed up 3 days ago and I already have about 1500 followers. My goal is 10,000 followers by end of the month. Cool beans. Once you become a Ping user you are able to view what music your friends are purchasing and reviewing (umm hello, it better be mine - just sayin'.)  You can receive a personalized "charts" list that features what other people with a similar taste in music are listening to through iTunes.  Additionally, you can be informed about what concerts your friends are attending and be able to purchase your tickets accordingly.Well, I hope you like Ping as much as I do. And if you do, I would appreciate you recommending me to your friends.

What's on Your iPod?

You can tell a lot about a person by what songs they have on their iPod.

A wall street banker might not want to share the fact that he has a Miley Cyrus playlist or a tough looking gang-member will not be very comfortable letting the homies in the hood know that he has Captain And Tennile's "Muskrat Love" on his playlist. That would be an epic fail for both of them, or would it?

As a singer and songwriter, I believe that music is universal and it alone could bring together the different cultures of the world when sometimes war and diplomacy might fail. But then again maybe I've been wearing my rose-colored glasses a little too long. But a girl can dream can't she?

I recently grabbed my manager Mr. Bricks' iPod to get a peek at the songs he had on it. First off, I initially did not even believe he even had an iPod because he is so far behind in technology. You remember this blog about his cell phone don't you?  Seriously, I thought maybe he still had a Sony Walkman with cassette tapes.

Secondly, of course I wanted to make sure he had my songs on there -- hey, I was just checkin'. I am proud to say Mr. Bricks gets an A+ because, yes, he had a whole slew of my music downloaded to his iPod. He also had songs I had never heard of. It turns out that Mr. Bricks is a huge disco lover and it appears he also likes any music that was recorded during the 1970's. It was all there on his little machine for the world to see. (little machine = iPod. That's what I call it.)

So what is on the Blonde Greek girl's iPod? Well, I have spoken about some of my musical tastes from time to time and it is all over the musical landscape. I know I surprise some people when they find out I might like a certain song or artist. My diverse love of music is also shown in the music I record and what I sing at shows. I think Mr. Bricks best summed it up today when he said that my own music appeals to everyone from babies to grandmas, and everyone in between. And that is so true because I have been exposed to every genre of music and I am influenced by it all. So I will continue to record and sing all types of music and I don't think that is a bad thing, no matter what the homeboys in my hood might think of me. Sista Ava is down wit dat.

Infact I have almost 15 gigs of music with a little more than 4,000 songs on my iPod Nano - If I ever fell down in a ditch while out running and no one noticed me,  at least I would have about 10 days worth of music to keep me going.

So if you look over my playlists you can see that I am a rocker chick with a sappy side. Just look at how many of my favs have the words "over you" or "without you" in the title. yep, I have had my heart broken a few times. Broken love is also is a common theme on my latest CD, "Gone". NOTE: I am proud to point out that my iPod is Lady Ga Ga free, sorry little monsters no Lady G for me -- that's just how I roll.
