I'd be very interested in some commentary on this setup.
As you probably already know if you follow this blog, this is designed as a PDF for computer screen viewing 1st, with printing considerations 2nd. For example, I was thinking about adding more elements to the margins, but I worry that it will become cluttered when viewed on a tablet. Font size is at least 12 pts for almost all text (vignettes are 10pt).
You will also note that this is entire B&W, unlike my previous work. I feel that B&W is an essential part of the feel of the document for this piece. It reinforces the genre. I think I may do a sepia tone version later, if I feel like it would improve the mood. But for now, I really like the B&W.
Be sure to click for full on all these images, I uploaded the full page resolution.
Below is the 1st page of a chapter. It comes directly after a full page art piece with a quote overlay. In this case, the quote is from I am Legend and the art piece is a man and a dog in a ruined city. Just to give you a sense of the feel. Notice that there is a header with the chapter number, and an outline so that you can tell what you are supposed to be doing at a glance.
Now we move into attributes. I am using the same chart style from my previous games. Boxed art because I have mostly full background pieces and not isolated on white. I could isolate some stuff on white if I really wanted to, but I don't think it would be worth the payoff and I don't want to alter the donated art too much.
Also, you may notice on this page that the faded text in the bottom right is changing as you move through the book so that if you were to print this, that would probably be in an easy place to look as you flip through the book since you are likely to bind/staple along the top of the page. It will correspond to bookmark placement as well, if you use bookmarks.
Now we have some full attribute descriptions here. You can see the vignettes are smaller italic font to separate them from the description text.
Thoughts? Critique? I am open to all opinions.
