Gone With The Wind

Picture this.... I'm in my car, which is usually all neat and tidy ~ not looking like it belongs to a  hoarder, but today not so much, it looked like total muckery.  Packed to the brim with everything but the kitchen sink that I took with me on my trip: boxes of Zone Bars, my vitamin suitcase (yes I have a suitcase for that doesn't everyone?), healthy rations, discarded Dunkin Donuts/Starbucks coffee cups and countless pairs of sneakers after a very relaxing vacation.
I was heading north on I-95 trying to rush back to New York for the premiere of my new music video "Gone" when my mom calls me and tells me that several tornadoes have touched down  just a few miles from where I was at.
I was in central Virginia, miles from the warmth and beauty of the Florida beaches I had just spent 10 beautiful days at and yet still several hours from the safety of my own home in New York. The rain was relentless, the wind was blowing and the thunder and lightning was deafening. I text Mr. Bricks that I was scared. In typical  Mr. Bricks' fashion, he never responded. As my Sweetie was driving, my mom was on the other end of my cell phone reporting to me the minute by minute updates she was getting from NOAA.gov - She told me that tornadoes have been touching down all over the south and midwest and at least 72 people have lost their lives. That saddens me. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and communities affected by these disastrous storms. I also pray for the safety of the rescue workers who will be put in harm's way to try to help others the next few days.
The weather was so severe I had to take refuge in a Denny's in Doswell, VA. The restaurant was in lock down for about an hour, it was just too dangerous to let people leave. I was happy to be someplace warm, and safe. The fact that it smelled like pancakes was a bonus. The entire time my Greek noggin raced about all of the people and animals who were less fortunate than I was and who had to brave the elements without being fortunate enough to be able to find shelter. I was thanking God the entire time that I was safe and prayed for those effected by this terrible band of storms.
Finally, after dealing with some last-minute bumper-to-bumper traffic at 1:00 AM on the New Jersey turnpike (what was that all about?) Oh good gravy, where in the world was the entire state of New Jersey going at 1:00 AM? Don't they know, nothing good ever happens after midnight? But I did make it home, braving the wind, rain, lightning, tornadoes and all.
As exciting as the release of my new music video "Gone" is for me today, I still have  sadness in my heart for those families who have been effected by this disaster and ask that in addition to watching my new video,  you also say a prayer for those effected by the storms.
Blessings,
Ava

What would you do with 15,000 McRib Sandwiches?

The long awaited "Ava the Diva's First Sold Out Concert" Part 2 episode of my web based cartoon series is here. If you missed the first part, you can watch it here first.  Part 1
Grab the kids, grandma, the dogs and watch along and see what happens after Ava the Diva's manager Mr. Bricks negotiated a deal where Ava would get paid with 15,000 McDonald McRibs for a concert. See what lengths Ava goes through to make it right.
I hope everyone has a Happy Easter (Passover to all of my Jewish friends)

State Of The Union

For two hundred plus years we have had to listen to Presidents stand up and tell us the state of the union. They go on national television and all you hear is Blah blah, blah, blah and then 73 minutes later they say..In conclusion..
That's crap. Since when does a president have any idea what is really going on in this country? How can anyone describe the state of the union unless they are actually living the life that the majority of Americans are living? Just a hunch, if the President has a hankering for a slice of pizza at 3 Am he doesn't have to worry about the freaks who are hanging around the 24-hour pizza joints. All he has to do is push a room service button on his phone and someone brings him a slice.  It's like the old saying..."If you want to really get to know a person, walk a mile in their sneakers."
I may be just a rocker chick and not the President of the United States. But since I don't have to rely on the secret service to make sure the Presidential Seal doesn't fall off of the podium again. I don't have to wait for a bunch of high-priced politicians to agree on ways to screw the American public, so I can deliver my State of The Union address way before the ink dries on the cue cards for President Obama's State of The Union address. You know what they say...the early bird gets the worm. (That saying kinda creeps me out)
So here is The Greek Blonde Girl's State of The Union address for 2011.
Mister Speaker, President Obama, Vice President Biden, Members of Congress, distinguished readers of my blog and all other fellow Americans and oh I guess my manager Mr. Bricks:
Things are messed up and I am making some sweeping changes to get people back to work and to find ways to better stimulate the economy.  So that is why I am happy to announce here today that all shopping malls in America will now be required to stay open 24 hours a day. This new requirement for each store will force them to hire more people to increase their staff to be able to be open 24 hours a day as required. Ok, I just added about One Million jobs, how hard was that?
The housing crisis in America has lingered on way too long. This is why I have decided to put a stop on all home mortgage foreclosures. We will go back to the way this country was founded and give squatter rights to each and every homeowner in the country as long as they are occupying their own home. However, if you have rental property and do not occupy it, then that now becomes the property of the current renters occupying the dwelling. This will be a great equalizer of all home prices. Since no one is now in jeopardy of losing their home, I just solved the housing crisis, how hard was that? Now some of you will be screaming that is a redistribution of wealth and maybe it is. But so what. If you don't like it, write your own State of the Union address.
As a girl and as a proud Greek American I have noticed we have become a nation divided. As much as we would like to think all Americans are the same, we are not. We must begin to address our differences. I have found a way to unite us. So, no matter what internet service provider you use, whether you use a Mac or a PC, if you are hard-wired or wireless, we all must find ways to get along.  We need to set aside our differences and welcome Google users into the homes of Bing or Yahoo search engine users and they too must welcome a Google user into their home. Is is only through our differences that we will be able to find our similarities. Now I know that last sentence didn't make any sense at all, but it sounded really cool. Ok, the Greek Blonde Girl just solved the diversity issue, how hard was that?
Taxes are way too stinking high. The current thought is that we need taxes to pay for all of the social service programs. You are right, therefore we are discontinuing all freebies and government handouts. The one program that will continue is social security. You get out what you put in. Ok, I just balanced the budget and ended the deficit.
My dad came to this country from Greece with $20 in his pocket. He actually had more but was robbed when he stepped off of the airplane at the at the airport. OK, wait that whole getting robbed part isn't true,  I just wanted to say, if you want something in life work for it. If you come from another country great! That's how we were founded. But you no longer get free food, free education, free housing, free transportation, free Laker Tickets... Wait a minute. Oh what are you saying? You mean this country doesn't look so enticing any more? Good. Ok, I just solved our illegal immigration problem.
In conclusion, we still live in a great country, but we need to stand up, speak out and take our country back...hey I feel a song coming on here....
Good day my fellow Americans.
Blessings,
Ava

Slippery Roads

I am calling my post today Slippery Roads. The words I write, my blog per se, may not make you chuckle, but that's Ok because I found this hilarious picture to go along with whatever muckery nonsense I do end up writing. This picture just cracks me up!
No - it's not a picture of my manager Mr. Bricks slipping on the ice outside a McDonald's. It's a polar bear -- although for you farsighted folks it might be hard to distinguish between the two. You have to get up real close to be able to tell the difference between Mr. Bricks and a polar bear. They both have very coarse hair all over their body, they both have a certain pungent smell about them, both are clinically overweight, they both could use a pedicare and manicure, and they both could slip on ice and end up on their back and not be able to get up.  The only real difference is, one lives in the zoo. -- Guess which one? I'm not telling! Sometimes I do crack myself up.
As winter starts to settle in, many of us who live in colder parts of the country will soon find ourselves driving again on slippery roads. It's what we must put up with when we choose to live in a place that has cold frigid winters. Like clockwork, after the first snowfall every year the local TV news highlights all of the accidents from the first winter storm. The smarmy weatherman warns about the dangers of driving on slippery roads.  Blah, blah, blah - we get it Mr. Weatherman. Eventually we all do quickly re-learn the art of driving on ice after a few days and for the most part we still get to where we are going, we just realize it takes longer.
Living our life is a lot like driving on slippery roads.  (That was a nice blog segway for a blonde rocker chick, huh? ) You can live your life  slow and cautious in everything that you do. And in the end you will be where you wanted to be and most likely have a life full of proud accomplishments for your efforts. On the other hand you could speed through your life recklessly not caring about yourself or others and most likely you will end up dead in a ditch somewhere.
To further illustrate my point. When the roads are slick out there on the highways and byways, there always seems to be one yahoo travelling 20 - 30 miles over the posted speed limit as if it was a nice hot summer day! They don't care about themselves or others. This person just wants to get where they are going and they want to get there now! In reality they are driving/living on thin ice, literally and figuratively! This is most likely the same person who talks out loud throughout and entire movie. It is the person who has a basket full of groceries in the 10 items or less lane. The world is full of a bunch of knuckleheads I tell you.
This person thinks they are in control -- but somewhere in life or perhaps somewhere on the highway, they are going to unexpectedly hit a patch of black ice and lose control. The sad thing is, they usually end up causing harm to other people when they go out of control because of their carelessness.
I say, what's the rush? Enjoy the journey, whether it be your weekly journey to the mall to get new sneakers or on your journey of life -- be safe, go slow and watch out for the slippery roads!
Have a great day!
Blessings,
Ava

What Do I gotta say?

What do I gotta say? Yah, that's the name of the song I wrote for this video ( I hope you enjoy it) but it's also happens to be the name of today's blog.
So what do I gotta say today is how absolutely blessed I am. I praise God each and every morning for watching over me and for him allowing me to do something like act and make music for a living. In the grand scheme of life, I have it pretty darn good.
I feel very fortunate that I get to do this for a living,  so I try to find ways to give back at every turn. I do a great deal of charity work with animals and seniors.  I'm also very active with several charities, but the one way I really want to give back is to eventually go on a USO Tour and show the troops how much it personally means to me that they do what they do. It would be my pleasure to travel anywhere in the world to sing for them and let them know how much the are appreciated.
I am proud that one of my latest videos is a tribute to the fallen soldiers we have lost. I couldn't imagine the sacrifices a family must make to have one of their parents go away from their family, let alone when that good deed ends up them giving the ultimate sacrifice of their life for our freedom. That's important stuff. Makes my eyes tear up just thinking about it. Here is a song for them

I'll Carry You With Me
So at the end of a day when I am asked what do I gotta say?I gotta say, Thank you Jesus for allowing me to be who I am and to be able to do what I do.
Blessings,
Ava   xoxo
