The Greek Girl Doesn't Roll with Bed Bugs

It used to be such a cute little saying from my Dad and Mom every single night, "Good nite our sweet little Ava, and don't let the bed bugs bite." After hearing that I would then march up to my room and get ready for bed. It should be noted that it would only be at bedtime that I would finally take off my sneakers. I would then put on my pajamas and climb into bed. Yup, even as a little tow-headed little Greek blonde girl  I would keep them on for as long as I could...you have heard of security blanket issues with some kids? Well I had security sneaker issues.

So I would be laying in bed, in my favorite purple snap-up flannel pj's, the ones complete with feet in them, the trap bottom with even more snaps,  and lots of gold stars all over them. With all of that purple and gold I looked like a mini Los Angeles Lakers' mascot.

Then I would fall fast asleep, dreaming of someday becoming a rock star, without even a thought of bed bugs - after all it was just Mom and Dad being silly. Bed Bugs, Schmed Smugs, they were not real, were they?

But now a days if I went to bed and someone said, "Good nite Ava and don't let the bed bugs bite,"  there is no way this Greek Girl would ever be able to fall asleep. It would be too late. The thought of bed bugs would have filled my little noggin - I would then get all itchy and junk and then I wouldn't be able to relax enough to fall asleep. Whether there were actually any BB's sharing the sheets with me or not, it didn't matter. It was too late - the thought of them was already out there occupying space in my coconut.

Is Casey Anthony Guilty?

Acquitted. Now let's make this all worth while. Sign petition below.

Last time I checked, although I am Greek, I am still living in America. And the last time I cracked open a Rand-McNally map Orlando, Florida was also still part of the United States of America. So if these two statements are true that should still mean that if someone was acquitted of a crime in O'Town they were judged by a jury of their peers to have been found not guilty of the crime they were charged with.  Furthermore, they are not to be held accountable in a court of law, no matter what other facts there may be.  It is the way our court systems have been working for more than a hundred and fifty years. If you do not like it, move to Iran or Iraq and just pray that you see men and women in green uniforms with the US flag sewn on their shoulders to liberate you and give you some of the same freedoms and democracy we enjoy here. 'Nuff said.

Ok, that is my geography/legal mumbo jumbo disclaimer for the day. Let me get into the meat and potatoes of what I need to get off of my Greek chest.

I remember the OJ verdict. I didn't follow the trial but I do remember seeing the riots and the aftermath of his acquittal. I thought to myself what a crazy thing to do. The fact that the rioting and outcry was actually from many people who agreed with the verdict but used it as an excuse to become lawless and unruly.  How silly is that? I did not follow the Casey Anthony trial so much either - but the reaction to the verdict has been near impossible to miss. I am glad there was not civil unrest with the announcement of the verdict for Casey Anthony. My biggest fear was that riots would have hooligans burning down Cinderella's Castle at Disney World, busting the Aquarium at Sea World trying to set Shamu free or worst yet toppling the giant globe at the front entrance to Universal Studios Florida because that is where Casey said she worked. My googled eye manager Mr. Bricks who has spent the last month in Florida (doing God only knows what) was super concerned that someone would smash up all of the all-you-can eat buffets on International Drive. To him, that would have been the true travesty of justice in this case.

Right or wrong, whether you agree or do not agree with the jury's verdict it is the way 12 people saw the evidence and voted. I have seen reports that all of the alternate jurors also would have voted the exact same way. So clearly as smug as he was Jeff Ashton did a very poor job and spent way too much time trying to make Casey out to be a horrible person. I am thinking perhaps Florida prosecutor Jeff Ashton is a cousin or somehow related to HLN's talking head Nancy Grace...just a hunch. Would someone investigate that for me please?

Ok, keep your pantaloons on and remember according to where we all live (see first paragraph of this blog) everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am just using my constitutional rights and blogging....but what the point of today's blog is, is to say that  something very beautiful has come out of this circus. It is a petition to create a new law that would be called Caylee's Law that will make it a felony for a parent or guardian to not notify law enforcement of a child going missing in a timely manner. It was started by a woman named Michelle Crowder from Oklahoma who was outraged by the verdict and decided to do something about it.  To date more than a million people have gone to change.org and have signed the petition. Cap'n Crunch Walks the Plank

A breakfast with this is not Greek Girl approved

Have you ever noticed how guys can not just eat one bowl of breakfast cereal? Well, I am going to appoint myself as the Czar of  Breakfast Stuff (BS) and let you know that you should not be listening to those BS commercials.  Otherwise you will have to Leggo the Greek Girl's Eggo, just sayin'.

I know I know I am always harping about "you are what you eat", but really I can not say it enough. It's OK to have a bit of "bad foods" once in a while but really.... Capt'n Crunch for breakfast? Not so much, it is more like a dessert... and like a handful, not a bowl.  Sorry to burst anyone's sugar coated cereal bubble.

You only have one body and it really is a miracle.  What you put into it is really important, that's why for breakfast I'm all about egg whites.  Almost every day I have egg whites and a Thomas Light whole grain English Muffin with smart balance & peanut butter on it (peanut butter is a super food btw).  If I don't have egg whites, I usually have a 0% Fage Greek Yogurt (we talked about this in a blog last week).  Of course I wash it down with a coffee....  BTW are you following my coffee every day on twitter? hmmmmwww.twitter.com/avaaston  @avaaston ;D

I get that kids & even grown ups too like cartoons and all, but I have spent time in the cereal isle, and honestly it is really hard to find even one cereal that is balanced and "good" for you.  It's either too high in sugar, or not enough fiber & protein.... Also the serving size is generally 1/3 of a cup.  We all know that most people do not measure out their cereal before they eat it. So most people are actually eating like 3-4 servings of cereal... this makes for a lot of muckery.  Mood swings, and irritability from not having a balanced breakfast.

So take it from this Rock Chick ~ cereal.... not such a great choice for breakfast.  For me it's all bout being healthy, feeling good and being in shape for performances for my music & acting.  No matter what you do in life, it's important to be the best you can be, and eating a sugary cereal for breakfast is not for champions.  ;D just sayin.  If you absolutely have to have a cereal, best to read the label and make sure it has whole grains & a proper balance of protein, fiber, low sugar, and make sure to measure it.  I use lactose free skim milk, however there are lots of healthy choices for your cereal: almond milk, soy milk, rice milk, whatever floats your cereal boat.  A better choice for a breakfast cereal is steel cut oatmeal, Yummo!

After a Greek Girl approved breakfast you should be all ready to put on your sneakers for a kick butt workout! Go out & have a super spectacular day!

I'm Posting every day in 2011

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all had a fun but safe New Year's Eve and a restful New Year's Day.  Ok, it's a new year and time to jump back into the salt mines -  feet first. Be safe doing that, don't want to crack your noggin open. I suggest when you jump feet first into anywhere, you always have your sneakers on- Just Sayin'

Speaking of my blog, I’ve decided I want to continue my torrid pace that I ended in 2010 of putting up a blog every day! So looks like you will get your noggin full of more muckery from the Greek Girl all throughout 2011. Remember I am posting 7 days a week, so make sure you read my weekend posts as well.  And don't forget every Saturday my blog is one of those cute little cartoons between me and my manager Mr. Bricks.

I started the blog in late October 1, 2010 and I have only missed 3 days since then. I know it won’t be easy to continue with the commitment into 2011, but its fun, inspiring, awesome and wonderful... so, I am up for the challenge!

Therefore I’m promising to all of you, and the community of other bloggers with similar goals, to help me along the way, including I will be asking for help when I need it and encouraging others when I can.
