I am writing 3rd level spells this week. I just finished a pretty strong editing sweep through the Race and Class sections, so I am going back to writing spells now. When I get 3rd level spells down and a few other minor things squared away, the game will be going public beta.
I am using the following spells as benchmarks. Possible contenders to go on the spell list must be roughly comparable to these spells in terms of utility or power.
1. Fireball dealing 1d6 damage per CL in center radius of 1 yard, 1d6 less each yard outside of that until faded completely
2. Teleport (with chance of error) to any known location
3. Hold Person with single save, then long duration (hours)
4. Create Undead, similar to my summoning spells thus far with variable power based on inputs/choices
5. Fear with single save for anyone within sight of the caster
So if you have any ideas on par with that, and in general alignment with my decision to make a lot of utility spells available at earlier levels than industry standards, let me know.
