An Experiment in Linking

I feel like I have kind of stagnated in terms of my traffic on this blog. I have been hovering at about 80 followers for quite some time now. I feel like everyone in the community that I have been involved in has had a chance to take a look at my blog and make a decision to either keep coming back or not.

Now I suppose it is possible that this lies at the feet of the A-Z blogging challenge, which I feel has been just absolutely horrid. I feel like people are tuning out of the community while this stuff has been going on. I know that I have been reading and linking OSR blogs at enormously deflated numbers lately, simply because I don't read A-Z posts. I just don't. I find them forced and contrived. I don't mean to step on the toes of anyone really involved in it, but I just really don't like the whole affair. If it had just been a 1 or 2 post thing, like the Hot Elf Chicks or the reimagined monster, that would be one thing. But this has just turned into a malaise, from my perspective.

I hate to complain because I am pulling about 400-500 unique visitors a day for the past several weeks and that is nothing to sneeze at. I know a lot of people who would be very pleased with that number. But I am a hungry ambitious dude... and I want more.

So starting soon, I am going to be going into some prominent RPG forums and starting a few controversial threads. I am going to be making these posts with the deliberate goal of getting people to click on the link to my blog in my signature. Who is this guy making controversial statements? And I don't mean like "bannable" statements, I mean like going after sacred cows. I want to see if that can knock me out of the rut that I feel I am in. Since my traffic has been pretty stable lately, I should be able to tell how much traffic comes from the linking.

Furthermore, I am going to be looking outside the OSR blogosphere for stuff on 3e and 4e. Errant is a game between the old and new, but I seem to be much more invested in the old community. I want to get into more discussions with the new folks and write counter-posts to theirs (or synergy, if applicable). And hopefully bring in some more traffic on that front.

So it is time to beat the bushes to startle the snakes. Let's get to it.
