Tattoos are becoming very common these days. There are hundreds and thousands of different designs of tattoos that you can choose from. Although tattoos are very popular, the new trend that is rapidly taking effect on the world is the tongue tattoo. Although many people aren't really familiar with the tongue tattoo, they are just starting to take shape. There are tattoos that cover all of the tongue or part of the tongue. In most cases those who already have one chose to have their tongue tattooed a different color. The designs that are most common for the tongue are stars, tribal work, or other shapes. People that get their tongues tattooed say it doesn't hurt but it provides a tickling sensation or a numb feeling in your mouth. This is because unlike your skin the tongue is a muscle. The procedure is very similar to getting a tattoo on your body. A tattoo involves needles puncturing the skin, putting ink into the epidermis. The needle moves fast just breaking the skin and leaving pigments of ink. The tongue is the same way, it will swallow the pigment on the surface after being punctured by the needle. When the pigments of ink are absorbed by the tongue, the color will remain there forever. Barbara McGuire
