Wolves
I bet that wolves may very well be the #1 killer of humans in the animal kingdom. Lions, Tigers, and Bears (oh my!) are vicious and dangerous, but I would think statistically the ole' wolf has them beat.
But you know what? I have NEVER been afraid of a wolf in an RPG game. Maybe that is my limited experience, but it just hasn't happened. So one of the things I am going to be doing when I stat out wolves for the Devil's Fork module is to really make them dangerous.
For starters, they are going to have a really high DEX. Maybe even in the 20 range. Because of how combat works in Errant, this would allow them to go last in the round. So they could hang back out of range and the PCs would have to use their turns either moving to engage them or huddled together in a defensive circle.
Then maybe allow them to take a full move AND make an unmodified attack in a single round. Something to allow them to run up, take a bite out of someone, and then dart back into the brush.
I want them to be able to kind of grind the party down. Any other ideas?
