"The GM is responsible for the plot. So he owns that plot. Just like the player owns the character. And so the player shouldn't necessarily alter the plot, just as the GM shouldn't necessarily alter the character. I cannot tell the player what they can and cannot do. I can just present the situation and the player can then make decisions for the character. Just like they shouldn't tell me what happens in the plot."

You should listen to the whole thing for the context, because he addresses a lot of the obvious counters that people are going to make. I think this is a really nice way of making a distinction between what the GM should be responsible for and what the players should be responsible for.
