If that last post seemed a bit... off, it was because a paragraph was eaten by Google.
There was supposed to be something like this in there:
A pirate can choose to forgo making their own roll on either Seamanship or Gunnery to assist a fellow pirate. If the pirate being helped has a talent for what is being rolled, they make their roll normally but if they succeed they get credit for 2 successes instead of 1. If they fail this roll, they simply gain 1 success. If the pirate being helped is not talented, they don't make a roll, they get 1 automatic success instead. This allows you to improve the odds of success for the crew as a whole, but you are giving up something. The pirate receiving help gains 1 extra share of the booty as a consequence of your help.
